Privacy Policy

This policy explains what we collect when you use the solar bill check on this site, what we do with it, and how to get it removed. It is written to be read, not to be skipped.

Greener Maine is the name we advertise under. The business behind it is Maine Energy Experts, a rooftop solar installer based in southern Maine. In this policy, "we" and "us" means that business. You can reach us any time on the phone number and email address at the bottom of this page.

What we collect

When you fill in the bill check, you give us:

Your ZIP code, and whether you own your home
Your electricity supplier, and your rough monthly electricity bill
How much sun your roof gets, and roughly how old the roof is
How you are thinking of paying, and roughly where your credit sits
Your rough timeline, and whether a ground mount is an option
Your name, phone number and email address

We also automatically collect standard technical information when you visit, such as your device type, browser, approximate location from your IP address, and which pages you opened.

About the credit question. We ask roughly where your credit sits because the solar loan runs through a credit union and it changes the rate you would be offered. This is not a credit check. We do not pull your credit report and we do not run anything against your file. It is your own rough estimate, nothing more, and you can answer "not sure" and still get your estimate.

Why we collect it

To work out your estimate and show it to you on screen
To email you a copy of that estimate
To call or text you about it, and to answer your questions
To work out whether your home is somewhere we can actually install, and to tell you straight if it is not worth doing
To measure how well our advertising works, so we know which ads to keep running

Calls, texts and emails

When you submit the form you are asking us to get in touch, so we will call you, usually within a few minutes, between 8:30am and 8:30pm. We may also text or email you about your estimate. Standard message and data rates apply.

You can stop this at any time. Reply STOP to any text, use the unsubscribe link in any email, or tell us on the phone and we will take you off the list there and then.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your details on. We are not a lead broker and we do not pass your information to a panel of installers to bid over.

We share it only with:

Our own team, who call you and prepare your proposal.
Service providers who run our systems on our behalf, which currently means our customer records and messaging platform, our email provider, and our spreadsheet and file storage. They may only use your information to provide that service to us.
A financing partner, if you decide to go ahead and want finance. We only pass your details on at that point, with your agreement. We do not send anything to a lender from the bill check alone.
Anyone we are legally required to share it with, such as in response to a lawful request.

Advertising and tracking

We advertise on Facebook and Instagram, and we use the Meta pixel on this site to see which of our ads led to an estimate. That means Meta receives information about your visit, and may match it to a Meta account if you have one. It is how we tell a working ad from a wasted one.

You can control this:

Meta's own ad settings: facebook.com/adpreferences
Your browser's cookie settings, or a private window, will block most of it
Most browsers let you send a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, which we honour where your browser sends one

How long we keep it

If you become a customer, we keep your records for as long as we need them for the installation, the warranty and our tax and legal obligations.

If you do not go ahead, we keep your enquiry for 24 months so we are not starting from scratch if you come back to it, then we delete it. You can ask us to delete it sooner and we will.

Your choices

You can ask us to:

Tell you what we hold about you
Correct anything that is wrong
Delete it
Stop contacting you, while keeping enough of a record to honour that request

Email us or call, using the details at the bottom of this page, and we will deal with it. We will not make it difficult and we will not charge you for it.

Security

Your information is held in password-protected accounts with the providers described above, and this site is served over an encrypted connection. No system is perfect, and we will not pretend otherwise, but we do not hold payment card details or Social Security numbers from this form, so there is less here to lose than you might assume.

Children

This site is meant for homeowners and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you think we have, contact us and we will remove it.

Changes to this policy

If we change how any of this works, we will update this page and change the date at the top.
